Welcome to English IV. This document provides an overview of the requirements and responsibilities I expect from my students. Best Wishes for a successful semester.

Celly, dropbox, and turnitin accounts – we will set up the first day of class

Evaluation/grades:
Tests/Essays/Journals                      100 pts

Homework/Participation                   10-25 pts
Quizzes/Vocab quizzes                     25-50 pts
Comprehensive Projects                 200 pts
* Tests, essays and projects comprise the vast majority of points for this class. Missing major assignments is detrimental to your grade.

Class conduct and rules:
Each student is expected to come to class on time and be prepared, with all materials. Excessive absences are extremely detrimental to student progress in the block due to the accelerated pace in which the material is presented.  Students are expected to be organized and keep track of their own materials due to work completed both in and out of the classroom; therefore, it is imperative for each student to keep his or her English notebook organized and available.  I am not responsible for lost or incomplete work.
****A copy of all assignments will be available upon request before or after class, or online – NOT DURING CLASS TIME.  You will be responsible for assignments – please write down all due dates and assignments that are on the board.  You will also receive a corresponding syllabus for all major papers, projects, etc.
Behavior:
Each student will exhibit proper manners and respectful behavior to all participants of my classroom and its contents. Listen attentively and respectfully – AND PUT THE CELLPHONES AWAY. Be courteous and keep hands/objects to yourself. Have an open mind. There will be no tolerance for Negative attitudes and/or slanderous behavior or language.
Cheating:
Cheating will not be tolerated in any form or instance (which includes copying homework). Cheating results in an immediate “0” on an assignment, a disciplinary referral and a call home. You will not be allowed to make up the points nor will an alternative test or assignment be provided. A second instance,  will result in an immediate failure of the course and further disciplinary action per the student handbook.
Extra  Credit:
I do assign and accept extra credit throughout the semester.  There will be an opportunity to earn up extra credit each marking period.  A due date assigned at the beginning of each quarter – extra credit will not be accepted after the due date.
…..
I try not to give homework over the weekend however it is not always possible. In order to have homework free weekends I need classroom cooperation in completing assignments on time and staying on task during class time. This also means that the majority of tests, projects and quizzes will fall on Fridays and Mondays.
Adherence to these requirements will make this course enjoyable and a true learning environment. However, failure to comply with these conditions will result in disciplinary actions as well as possible grade reduction, or dismissal from class, resulting in loss of graduation required credit. Your cooperation is expected and encouraged.
